Here at Greater Church Concord, we have 3 pillars that comprise our foundational beliefs.
Covenant
Scripture Reference: Genesis 17:7 - "And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee."
Theological Backdrop: God's covenant with His people rooted in relationship and responsibility. This covenant is not just individualistic; it is communal. The early church embraced this concept, knowing that to live out the covenant with God, they must also live it out with each other. As members of Greater Church Concord, our covenant with God compels us to live out our faith in community, service, and commitment.
Purpose
Scripture Reference: Ephesians 2:10 - "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."
Theological Backdrop: This verse speaks to the doctrine of divine purpose. The believer is God's masterpiece, intricately crafted to fulfill His specific plans. Service in the church is a natural outflow of our purpose in Christ. By using our gifts in service to others, we demonstrate the fruit of God's creative work in our lives, fulfilling the good works He prepared in advance!
Servant Leadership
Scripture Reference: Matthew 20:26-28 - "But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you let him be your minister; And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant."
Theological Backdrop: Jesus redefines leadership in this passage. True leadership in the kingdom of God is not about hierarchy or power but about humility and service. As we serve others in the church, we mirror the example of Christ, who humbled Himself even to the point of death on the cross. Every believer is called to lead by serving, and this is how the body of Christ grows and thrives.
